FAQ
1. What clothes should I bring?
What is the most appropriate kind of clothing for Italy? Well, it varies according to the time of the year you visit, and which region you intend to stay in. As a general rule summers can get very humid, so a light shirt and slacks or skirt are appropriate (shorts are good beach wear but are frowned upon in restaurants or museums like the Vatican). You can bring sneakers and sandals but packed closed toe shoes for church tours. Bring proper sun protection like sun block, SPF and a big hat. Avoid heels as they aren’t comfortable if you will spend a lot of time walking around. Bring a light cardigan in case you will visit a place that doesn’t allow sleeveless tops.
The rains can get heavy from November to March so if you are visiting at that time it’s best to have a water proof jacket and hat and sturdy yet fashionable boots (break them in before you leave!). It gets snowy in the Northern areas so bring winter gear.
2. Do I need to present documents?
You should always carry around your passport. Visa requirements vary from country to country but most of the time you won’t need one if you will be staying less than 90 days.
3. What’s the secret to getting good travel discounts?
One of the surest ways of getting lower rates is to book your trip during the off season. Not only are flights and hotel rooms cheaper but you won’t have to contend with crowds.
You can save on hotel rooms by staying at hostels, a three star or two star hotel (if you’re not picky about luxuries). If you are a large group rent an apartment and divide the rental fees. You can also cook your own food there!
