Italy now has a high-speed train service between Milan and Rome that will cut travel time by twenty five percent to three hours for next year. Italian airline passengers are now shifting towards this busy route of Italy’s first innovative state railways. This mode of transport is said to corner at least sixty percent of the market for travel alone.

After a bumper harvest pushed Italian wine production above that of neighboring France for the first time, the country is probable to be the world’s largest wine producer. The Coldiretti farmers have estimated the production of Italian wine up to eight percent over last year (2007) to 4.7 billion liters, compared to France’s 4.44 billion liters. Production fell around five percent. Italy had surpassed France’s wine production in 1998, and since then has been decreasing the area of land cultivated as vineyards to keep on with improving quality. However, real figures will be confirmed on January next year (2008).

Black squirrels are found in Abruzzo, Italy. The region is characterized by a medieval economy run by sheep. The place is also where you can find Italy’s wildest national park, which is actually only one of three in the area. There you will see lynx, bear, wolf, chamois, reptiles, a long list of birds, mammals and a black squirrel indeed, known as scoiattolo meridionale or the southern squirrel. Black squirrels are meager mutations of the common grey. More singular is the Marsican brown bear, which is actually the symbol of the Abruzzo National Park, or more specifically the Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise.
